General Information Title:Health Officer for INSTINCT (INSTINCT-HO) Duty Station:Gorontalo Responsible to:Project Manager Coordinates with:District and Sub-district Governments and Partners Duration:24 months with possibility for extension(available by September 1, 2012) Closing date:August 22, 2012 Position Summary RESPONSIBILITIES The INSTINCT Health Officer is primarily to build community awareness on mother and child health through Positive Deviance and Appreciative Inquiry methods and to integrate environmental health initiatives to Posyandu revitalization as to contribute to the overall goal of INSTINCT Project. The overall goal of the INSTINCT Projectis to improve the nutritional status of children under the age of five in Gorontalo District. The role involves a high degree of good communication, appreciative interviewing skills and community participatory analysis on positive deviance mothers. The INSTINCT HO is responsible for design and managing health promotion activities in the field. He/Sheis also providing regular report to ADRA Indonesia’s Project Manager and suggesting creative and innovative approaches to make the INSTINCT project effectively triggering community’s self-awareness for positive change. QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED · Appreciative, honest, trustworthy, highly organized, and have high integrity; be self-motivated to use innovation and creativity. · Have good communication and interpersonal skills in order to maintain an acceptable working relationship with formal and informal villages’ leadersand traditional healers. · Ability to establish and maintain working relations in a multi-cultural environment with sensitivity and respect for cultural diversity. · University degree in Community/RuralHealth, Nutrition Major, or other relevant subject. · Understand Appreciative Inquiry (AI) and able to implement Positive Deviance (PD) approach, CLTS (Community-based Total Sanitation) and team player in community mobilizing process. · Ability to work under pressure at times while maintaining high quality results. · Proven by a minimum of working experiences in two (2) projects on Mother and Child Health. · Demonstrate affinity with child health, environmental health and sanitation issues for community health. JOB DESCRIPTIONS The INSTINCT Health Officer will undertake design and implementation of actions that will effectively trigger community intention and solution positive deviance people and discover community best resources to increase nutritional status of children of under-five.He/Shewill encourage community leader to integrate basic services to Posyandu and draft the actions in villages development planning. The candidate will also responsible to conduct monitoring of master trainer and Posyandu cadres. He/Shewill ensure community facilitator and cadres in good coordination and communication with strategic stakeholdersand find ways to improve health in the community. The Health Officeris required to undertake the following tasks: 1. Conducting stakeholder analysis and coordinating with related stakeholders for the INSTINCT Project orientation prior to implementation. 2. Design and conduct Positive Deviance(PD)Inquiry trainings and process, health promotion activities or other related trainings with the existing known institutions & community groups (Posyandu, PKK, BPD,Lembaga Adat, LKMD, Water Committee, etc.). 3. Propose ways or strategic actions and methodology of INSTINCT Project that adjusted to local context and effectively mobilize the resources to increase nutritional status of children of under-five and health environment. 4. Conduct initiating surveys, analyses and presentations of findings related to community development or concept note for new project elaborated from cross cutting issues 5. Participate in the monitoring, evaluation and re-design INSTINCT Project based as recommended by Project Manager 6.
